Just Breeze by Beverly Stowe McClure is the sweetest coming of age novel I have ever read. I am so glad to be a part of it. When reading the manuscript, in preparation for illustrating the cover, I was amazed how wrapped up in the story I got. I reminisced, I sympathized, I laughed, I cried. This on is not just for tweens, people. I loved it! Check out the back cover blurb: Eighth grade starts out the same as every other year for Breeze Brannigan. She’s still the tallest student, boy or girl, in her class, wears shoes that would fit an elephant, and her smile reveals dazzling braces that blind everyone within ten feet. Then she meets Cam , the new boy in school who speaks with an accent and must be from another planet, for none of the earthling boys she knows are so polite. He also has a secret, a secret that could mean life or death for Cam and his mother and that Breeze must help him keep. Yes, there's even suspense ... lol. You will love this book! So many delays ... First the CPSIA issue, I started having weird health problems (which is better now, btw), I moved (right before Christmas), Christmas for three kids, my entire hard drive locked up, then, do I need to keep going? But, I finally not only finished book one, but I designed the cover for book two. So as not to delay the rest of the series, I am starting illustration for it now, even though it is not due to be released until Spring 2010. Get your copy here! Would a Kangaraffe Make You Laffe? is really cute. What amazed me, was how Rich Aaron created the new words/names for the animals, and Stephen does an awesome job making merging them.  Book two of the Junior Geography Detective Squad's 50 State Mystery Trivia Series, State of Quarries, is now available through 4RV Publishing (for only $10.99) and anywhere else books are sold.  Of course, book one, State of Wilderness, is also available. It is needed if you want to not only start your collection off right, but also, each book features a bonus clue ... hinting to the US territories in addition to each book hosting clues to a secret state.  Book three, State of Reservations, is currently in the works. Elysabeth gives updates on her blog as to how her writing is coming along. As for my part of the book, I am scheduled to start work on it as soon as I finish my current project, Being Jacob: First Day of School.  As predicted in my last post, weekends don't really allow time to focus on my drawing.  First comes the idea ... but from where changes from book to book. Sometimes it is drawn from the title, other times key components of the story, and yet other times the author or publisher already knows what elements they want for their book cover and hopefully can articulate them well enough for me to take those desired elements and run with it ... making the cover both theirs and mine. Such is the case with Confessions of a Former Rock Queen by Kirk Bjornsgaard.  For the front cover Viv wanted to have a professional woman in the forefront. Someone that expresses power and independence along side maturity, a business savvy woman. She also wants the image abstracted a bit, after all, I sometimes use stock photographers and neither of us want to see the exact same image on another book some time ... lol.  Of course the 'Rock Queen' had to be part of the cover, the memory of her as the 'Rock Queen' anyway.  The image for the back cover was my idea based on what I knew from the book. To me a cover design just isn't finished without the back cover adding a visual hint to the plot since reviews and synopses don't always cover key aspects.  Last but not least, the font designer for the marquee style letters at the top of the front cover was created by Randy Ford and it's called 'Showtime'. | WI&DP BlogWillowRaven PDFolio:
